Cyber Security and Its Importance

Hello Sofiane!

Cyber security and cyber attack, people have a great concern for these two words.

Think about the world of 500 years ago! Nope, very tough to figure it out if you compare with this post-modern world. People have passed thousands of hours and kilometers away to complete a conversation of a single sentence. Can you imagine now where are we living! Being habituated, we can’t pass a single moment without technologies. Technology becomes pulse in blood.

In every step except building relations and belief of everyday life, we use technologies, especially the Internet Technology. For surviving in a long run with internet technologies requires a secure environment in cyberspace.

Every minute, we are seeing about half a million attack attempts that are happening in cyberspace Derek Manky, Fortinet global security strategist

To protect computers and the programs, networks and the data from any attack or damage need cyber security. Cyber security is the mother of all the processes and the technologies we are using in our day-to-day life. Every country for every economic year proposes an extra budget for cyber security.

Cybersecurity includes several types of elements:

  • Network security
  • Information security
  • Application security
  • Recovery
  • Operational security
  • User-end education

Two-faced malware, headless worm, machine-to-machine attack and jailbreaking are the main threats and introducing a new level of fear. Our major security problems are caused by viruses, hackers, malware, Trojan horses and the password cracking.

In 2016 several companies faced cyber attack.

Dyn DDoS, recently acquired by Oracle was attacked in October 2016 and disrupt a host of websites.

The Tesco Bank customers lose their real money because of a cyberattack in November. Approximately 40000 accounts had been hacked.

In February 2016 cyberattackers became angry with the relationship between the US and the Israel. They attacked the US Department of Justice’s database and released information of 10000 Homeland Security employees.

Even LinkedIn, MySpace, and Tumblr were not out of the attack. 167 million, 360 million, and 68 millions of user accounts respectively were cracked down. VK.com, the Russian Facebook lost 100 millions user accounts. A lot of Twitter and Facebook user accounts were overtaken. Most recently 71 millions of Twitter accounts were flown away by the naughty birds! Nothing to say for Facebook where their CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s account was not secure!

Steps, (recommended) to escape from any unexpected threats:

  • Do not use the same password for all of your entries.
  • Do not install software from the sources that are not trusted.
  • Do not click any link from an unknown source in mail.
  • Without learning do not try to process or submit anything online.
  • Use USB flash drive by One hand. If you use it for many computers, Antivirus recommended or use Linux.
  • Using empty USB flash drive every time is the best practice.
  • Do not open any attachment from the unknown sources

Attackers are everywhere around you. So, remember the keywords of real life protection: be careful about LINK, PASSWORD, and SOFTWARE from UNKNOWN SOURCES or any UNKNOWN ATTACHMENT. Be aware and secure the keywords.

You are safe!
